The start of 2025 has brought change in the team at Raymond James, Hitchin as Karen and Gemma say their goodbyes.
Gemma joined us in January 2020 –an interesting first year! Just like Karen, she has been a fantastic part of the team, and she will be missed.
At the end of March 2025, Karen Tyrrell retired after 27 years working with the team in Hitchin. When she first joined the team in 1998, we were a team of three – Susie, her father Robert and Karen: Viva Forever by the Spice Girls was topping the charts.
On the day she joined, 3rd August 1998, the stock market experienced a decline due to ongoing concerns about the Asian financial crisis and its impact on global economies. An exciting day to start! The changes since those first days in some of the major indices does show how investing for the long term produces results:
Perhaps Karen was always meant to work in financial services, as her birthday falls on 6th April, the start of the new tax year? One of her previous roles was working at Irvin Air, where they made parachutes which perhaps didn’t bring transferable skills but always sounded exciting to the team!
As often the first person answering the phone in the office, and leading our Operations team, many clients will have had direct contact with Karen, and you will have experienced her knowledge of everything that was going on in the office and for clients.
We had a fantastic send off for her on the 31st March, thank you to everyone who came to enjoy the day with us. Good luck as you enter you “Freedom Phase” Karen!

But we are Planners, after all, so we have two new amazing team members who have joined the team here at Raymond James, Hitchin.
Alison Slater and Amber Southward joined us in February 2025 within the Client Services teams. Alison will be focusing on Operations and Amber within Wealth Manager Support.
Both a settling in really well and I am sure clients who have called into the office have seen what a great addition to our team they are – please make sure you say hello when you are next in the area!
